Parent Program

Training: Training is 3 consecutive days (21 hours). Training days model actual group sessions while teaching curriculum material. Participants leave with the information and knowledge necessary to co-lead a group with fidelity in their organization.

Planning: A minimum of 1-2 hours per week is needed to adequately prepare for a weekly session. This time includes preparation and planning for the group itself, planning for childcare and meals, room set-up and materials for parents. As group leaders become more familiar with the material, the time decreases.

Presenting: Groups are lead by 2 group leaders. Sessions are weekly for 12-14 weeks, 2 1/2 hours per week. (Meal time is first half hour. Group is 2 hours). It is important to note that two hours is needed for content to be presented.

Practicing: In addition to discussion and video vignettes, parents are given the opportunity weekly to role-play the material covered in the group discussion and video vignettes.

Promoting: Parents and staff are encouraged to use the strategies and materials with all children in their family. Individuals providing child care during group sessions should also be trained in the play and praise material.

Parent Involvement: Parents are also given home activities and assignments designed to develop and enhance the home/school connection.
